  • Onslaught | Dart Paper Airplane | Foldable Flight

Check out the Onslaught: a dart foldable paper airplane. Watch the instructional video! Onslaught Onslaught is a relatively easy paper airplane to fold and it flies excellently. This plane has fairly wide wings, but their strong leading edges allow this plane to be thrown as hard as you like. As with many planes, you may want to bend the back edges of the wings up ever so slightly to improve its balance, but give it a test throw before you do. It might fly perfectly without needing any adjustment. Give it a good launch and Onslaught will impress you when it soars to the far side of your gym!

  • Contest | Foldable Flight

What is this contest? Viewers often send me paper airplanes they have designed and folded. I'm frequently impressed by those creations and wanted to create an official avenue for submissions as well as a reward for the best designs. What do you get for winning? There will be up to 3 Grand Prize winners for this year’s contest. Each Grand Prize winner will receive the following: The winning submission will be featured in a folding tutorial on the Foldable Flight YouTube channel. I’ll give full credit to the designer of each winning paper airplane within the folding tutorial itself. Each Grand Prize winner will receive a customized trophy featuring their name and an illustration of their winning design. The Grand Prize Winners will also have their winning plane featured as a card in our upcoming board game, Top Flight: Paper Airplane Racing. There will also be up to 5 individuals who receive honorable mentions in this year's contest. Rules for Entry: 1. You must be the original designer of any paper airplane you submit. I will weed out any submissions that violate this rule. 2. An individual may submit no more than three (3) unique paper airplane designs to this contest, so choose wisely! 3. Individuals under the age of 18 must receive parental consent before entering the contest. 4. Submissions must be made by 8pm EDT September 20, 2025. 5. Carefully follow the guidelines below for submitting your designs. I reserve the right to remove any submission from the contest for any reason, including, but not limited to, incomplete information, inappropriate content, etc. 6. Any contestant who uses the email below for any purpose other than to submit a design for the contest will be disqualified and his or her submissions will be removed from consideration. 7. I reserve the right to make slight alterations to the winning design to improve its performance before making the final folding tutorial. 8. If I accidentally select a plagiarized submission as a winner, understand that the internet WILL CATCH YOU. The video featuring the plagiarized submission will be deleted and all prizes will be forfeit. Additionally, I will not accept submissions from you in future iterations of the contest. You must be the original designer of any paper airplane you submit to this contest. The Submission deadline is September 20. Winners will be announced on October 25. How will winners be chosen? I (Kyle Boyer) will choose my favorite paper airplanes from among the submissions to be the Grand Prize winners. To be clear, this isn't a competition defined by a single flight characteristic as in a distance competition or a time aloft competition. If a plane flies really far or for a long period of time, that's great! But I will also consider the plane's appearance, how unique it is, etc. I like a wide variety of paper airplanes, so send me your favorite original designs, and I'll surely love them too! How to Submit Your Original Designs: Submissions should be made by email to FoldableFlightContest@gmail.com and should include all information listed below: 1. Name of Plane 2. Name of Designer (that's you) as you would like for it to appear in the videos. 3. A link to a video tutorial for the plane. The video needs to be viewable on the internet. Please DO NOT send videos for me to download — such submissions will be rejected. Frequently Asked Questions: Q: Will the video I send you be made public in any way? A: No. I will be the only person to view videos submitted to the contest, and I will keep them private. I will not share any of your personal information publicly except the provided name for the designer of the plane. Q: Is this contest for origami planes only, or can the planes use cutting, gluing, taping, etc.? A: You're free to submit designs that incorporate any of these methods or materials, but the main construction material must be paper. Legal Notice: By entering this contest, the entrant grants to Foldable Flight LLC and its affiliates the right to create and publish content depicting the entrant's paper airplane design, its folding sequence, and any other information or content contained in the submission that could be construed to be the intellectual property of the entrant. By entering this contest, the entrant grants Foldable Flight LLC the right to mention the provided Name of Designer in any materials related to the contest, including, but not limited to, the contest videos and Foldable Flight's upcoming board game Top Flight: Paper Airplane Racing. No purchase necessary to enter. Purchases do not increase your chance of winning.

  • Foldable Flight | Meet the Pilot!

How did I first take-off in the paper airplane stratosphere? Learn more about the pilot behind the templates and videos! Hi! My name is Kyle Boyer. I've been designing paper airplanes for eighteen years and I'm finally ready to share my creations with the world. I work professionally as a graphic designer, but have always taken interest in math and engineering in addition to art. For me, paper airplanes represent an awesome intersection between those interests. Origami is a fundamentally mathematical form of art in which one must obey the geometric rules of paper. I appreciate the challenge of designing within this set of rules and engineering each plane to fly in its own particular way. Some planes will fly in a circle back to you, others spiral as they fly, some glide gracefully, and some just fly really, really far. I enjoy thinking of my planes as functional sculptures — objects of beauty not only in their appearance, but also in their flight. Hopefully by following my instructional videos you can enjoy my creations as much as I do. Meet the Maker Folding a New Plane It all begins with a blank sheet of paper and endless possibilities. The challenge of designing a new paper airplane is always exciting, but it is also daunting. Nearly all of my planes are folded from 8.5" x 11" paper, and all of them are origami models. This means that I do not cut, glue, or tape any of my planes. I could bore you with the details on why I choose to subscribe to such limitations in my designs, but suffice it to say that I believe those things (cutting, gluing, etc.) to be unnecessary. I find immense pleasure in approaching the same sheet of paper over and over again, accepting the same challenge of folding a new paper airplane, and finding that there is always a new solution I had not previously imagined. Some planes are successful after my first attempt, some require many iterations before a refined design is achieved, and some attempts are scrapped entirely — but there is always room to begin again. " Tearing the paper means you've stopped believing in the infinite possibilities of a rectangle." ― Tor Udall Designing the Template After folding a plane I like, I move to the next phase of design — creating awesome graphics for the plane in the form of foldable templates. Basically, I draw a design on a folded plane. During this portion of the process, I try to further develop the unique personality of the plane. I allow the curves and angles of the plane, as well as its flight trajectory, to inform my design so that the aesthetics of the plane are authentic to its character. Then I unfold it so I can see what the design looks like on a flat piece of paper. I turn this sketch into a finished illustration on the computer using design software such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. This finished illustration can be printed off and folded into one sick looking plane! To download printable templates for my planes or have them mailed to your home, support me on Patreon! Making the Video Once I have perfected the plane and designed the foldable template, it is time to share my creation with all of you. YouTube makes it possible for my planes to be folded by individuals all over the world. And that's a dream come true! I want as many people as possible to enjoy my creations. One of the great things about origami is the fact that it can be designed by one individual and folded by others. That makes it distinct from other art forms I enjoy, such as illustration, where I can share what I have made, but I am the only one who gets to experience the creation of it. Using my YouTube tutorials, viewers can engage in the creative process of folding the plane — and then have a blast playing with the finished design! My hope is that my planes will provide you with hours of entertainment and will encourage you to be creative as well.

  • Plasma Y | Dart Paper Airplane | Foldable Flight

Check out the Arrowhead: a dart foldable paper airplane. Watch the instructional video! Plasma Y Plasma Y is cousin to the popular paper airplane Plasma Z, and the yet to be released Plasma X. All three planes share a similar locking mechanism that holds the layers tightly together, giving the planes highly aerodynamic profiles. Plasma Y was the second to be developed and boasts a greatest wing area of the three. For this reason, Plasma Y flies slowly and gracefully while its counterparts dart across a room. Despite its slow glide, Plasma Y has a highly respectable range of 90 feet.

  • Invictus | Dart and Glider Paper Airplane | Foldable Flight

Check out the Invictus: a hybrid dart and glider foldable paper airplane. Watch the instructional video! Invictus Invictus is among the most brilliantly engineered planes on this site. It looks amazing and flies up to 90 feet, but it’s stand-out feature is its locking mechanism (innovated by legendary origami designer, Michael Lafosse) that holds the plane in a 3-dimensional form so that it won’t unfold in flight. This makes Invictus more aerodynamic than most paper airplanes and leads to its excellent range.

  • Arrowhead | Dart Paper Airplane | Foldable Flight

Check out the Arrowhead: a dart foldable paper airplane. Watch the instructional video! Arrowhead Arrowhead was the first plane I posted to YouTube and it has been a fan favorite, racking up over 1.5 million views! It is easy to fold and flies brilliantly. With a hard throw, this plane can fly over 100 feet! Arrowhead features a unique locking mechanism that holds all of the layers tightly to the plane, which makes it more aerodynamic than classic designs. The design is also a little bit nose-heavy (which is part of why it flies so far) so, once you’re done folding, you may need to bend the back edges of the wings up very slightly to improve its balance and increase its range.

  • Elanus | Glider and Dart Paper Airplane | Foldale Flight

Check out the Elanus: a hybrid dart and glider foldable paper airplane. Watch the instructional video! Elanus Elanus has the most beautiful flight pattern of any paper airplane I’ve seen. This plane glides so gently over such a distance, that I’m not sure I’ll ever design a plane to best it. The fuselage of the paper airplane locks both in the front and in the back, leading to an exceptionally aerodynamic profile, especially for a plane with so much wing area. That combination allows Elanus to glide gracefully for over 90 feet, a range that is absurd for a glider this size. It’s an advanced fold due to a few tricky steps, but I’m betting you can fold it and that you’ll be thankful you did!
